Fun Ways to Build Connections in Your Community This Summer
The connection between members of an HOA community is important. Whether you’re a community leader or just a homeowner, the more you know the people around you, the more likely you are to invest in the community and try to make it a better place to live.
Some people like events, while others prefer to do something with their neighbors while getting to know them. No matter who you are and what you like to do, there should be something on this list that will work for you.
Pool Party
Pool parties are always fun, especially if you have a pool in your neighborhood or community that you can use. Otherwise, you can rent a pool outside the community and invite your whole neighborhood there.
These work better if you have some food, like a potluck or a BBQ, and if you plan some activities where people can interact and get to know one another better.
Community Cleanup
If there’s trash around your community – and there’s some trash around every community – inviting people to a community cleanup day could be a great way to build relationships. You don’t have to do much more than notice trash, put up signs, and designate a meeting time and place.
From there, everyone can find a place to pick up trash and work until the job is done. Your community will look great and people will have plenty of time to talk to each other, too.
Neighborhood Help Day
Are there people in your neighborhood who are in a hard season? Maybe they don’t have the money to make some key home improvements, they need to modify their home to make it wheelchair accessible, or they are too ill to do the things they need and want to do.
Work with them to find a day when neighbors can come over and help them out. This is especially useful when there’s outdoor work that needs to be done, though some neighbors can come inside to help cook and clean, too.
Puppy Party
People LOVE their dogs and there’s not really a better way to bond than over snuggling animals. Set up a day at your local dog park, or even at your pool at the end of the summer. Let people bring their dogs, then let the dogs play.
Make sure you note if dogs need to have certain vaccines before they come or if they need to stay on a leash. That way, people will know what to expect and can make good choices about whether to bring their pup.
Exercise Clubs
People who exercise together often become friends. Set up walking clubs, running clubs, and even group trips to the local gym. This will help people get to know each other and improve their fitness at the same time.
Call us at AMI if you need help planning events or want more ideas for bringing your community closer together. We’ll come up with a plan designed to meet your community’s needs!
